other Services we offer at Back on Track Equine Therapy

Horses have an olfactory system that is directly linked to a part of their brain called the amygdala 🧠 that controls emotional responses and stress. Incorporating aromatherapy into a massage or bodywork session is a great way to enrich your horse's senses as well as provide your horse with health and wellness benefits that you may not have known could be possible from nature.
Every essential oil has a different purpose for your horse. At Back on Track Equine Therapy we stress the importance of letting your horse choose the essential oil (s)he wants to bond with. It is intriguing to see how frequently horses choose the essential oil their body needs the most. Sometimes they pick one that we wouldn't think they need, but trust your horse. They know best.
We use 100% therapeutic grade essential oils, diluted for the comfort of our equine friends!

Aromatherapy
Adding Essential Oils to your horse's bodywork session
How Aromatherapy is Performed
The process of letting the horse choose his/her essential oil is very interesting!
The therapist dips a popsicle stick into each oil and allows the horse to sniff each one separately.
If horse turns nose away: not interested in oil but doesn't hate it
If horse steps back or appears nervous: does NOT like the oil
If horse attempts to lick the popsicle stick or continues to smell it and push nose into it: loves the oil, and that's the one (s)he wants.
offered as an add on service:

$10.00 add on
we also offer bottles sold separately
After your horse chooses his/her oil, the therapist will either
a. massage the oil into areas of tension
b. use a diffuser to disperse it in the air
or c. encourage inhalation from your horse
Aromatherapy can help horses experiencing behavior issues (fear, anxiety, depression, disconnect, anger)
It is so good for horses with allergies, itchy/dry skin, swelling, muscle tension, joint pain, headaches, respiratory issues, and more. If your horse responds positively to the session, we offer the properly diluted oils for purchase and will walk you through how to use them.

Crystal & Floral Essence
for horses experiencing disconnect and interference in their Chakras
How to use Crystal & Floral Essence
First, let's talk about Chakras
A Chakra is an invisible port through which energy travels across the body. Chakras can be overactive (too open) or underactive (closed off). Chakras are believed to influence physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. They have to be balanced. When they become hyperactive or hyporeactive, this can lead to a change in physical and/or mental well being.
Horses & Humans have 7 shared chakras.
Interact with the Diagram Below to find out more about each Chakra

1. Root (Base) Chakra: Located at the base of the spine in the tailbone area Corresponds to the adrenal glands, motivation, and energy. Will to survive and reproduce.
2. Sacral Chakra: Situated in the lower abdomen: Connected to emotions, sexual drive, and function. Adaptation to new experiences, and ability to accept others.
7. Crown Chakra: Located at the poll It connects to spirituality (harmony with nature) and consciousness. It is linked to the right eye and pineal gland.
6. Brow Chakra: Forehead, between the eyes Associated with perception and insight. Relates to intuition, thinking, observing, and inner wisdom. Connected with the ears, left eye, nose, and nervous system.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra: Found in the upper abdomen: this chakra affects confidence and is linked to where horses fall on the hierarchy. It corresponds to the liver, pancreas, nervous system, and stomach

5. Throat Chakra: Located in the throat: This chakra is associated with communication and self-expression. It governs the energies of the thyroid gland, throat, and neck
4. Heart Chakra: Located in the center of the chest: it handles emotions of love, joy, hate, trauma, and inner peace. It balances resentment and loyalty; compassion or lack of it. It physically corresponds to the lungs and heart.

Using Crystal & Floral Essence

An evaluation will be performed based off your horse's history, behavior, and personality traits.
The therapist will then choose which essence would be best for your horse based off this history and confirm their choice by allowing your horse to smell each essence bottle. Whichever bottle your horse radiates to the most is the crystal essence the therapist will recommend for your horse. The therapist may recommend a second bottle if they feel another option would also benefit your horse.
To administer Crystal or Floral Essence, you will add however many drops your therapist recommends to your horse's grain or water once daily.
They may also recommend a spray bottle, and misting your horse with it once daily.
You can also apply Crystal or Floral Essence, during a bath by applying multiple drops to your wash bucket or horse's shampoo. Make sure to mix it thoroughly.

Ice Therapy
When your horse has inflammation with heat, Ice is your best friend....

If your horse has swelling, heat, or inflammation in a certain area, (s)he may benefit from some ice therapy, and we will offer it to you as an add on service during your horse's bodywork session. We have multiple styles of ice packs that can fit to your horse's need: ice packs for your horse's back, neck, and hindquarters and ice boots for the legs and feet.

Heat Therapy
When circulation is poor or muscles are tense and having spasms, Heat is your best friend....
Heat therapy is an excellent way to prepare muscles before stretching or riding. It can be highly beneficial for managing chronic injuries, softening scar tissue, and releasing tension in the back and fascia.
⚠️ Important:
-
Do not apply heat if an area already feels warm to the touch.
-
Use caution when inflammation is present.
Incorporating heat into a bodywork session can have a calming and relaxing effect on the horse. It enhances skin, muscle, and fascia flexibility and elasticity, allowing the horse to release tension more effectively. This also enables the therapist to access deeper muscle layers, resulting in a more complete and restorative massage.
